Frequently asked questions.

How to Prepare for your Home Visit:

Timing:

While I endeavour to be punctual, babies can be quite unpredictable! If I am leaving from one visit to another, I will arrive to your home within approximately 10-15 minutes of your scheduled appointment time. I carry with me all of the tools and items we might need as well as my computer.

Dress:

Yourself and baby in comfortable clothing with easy access for feeding. We will weigh your baby in their diaper, so today is the day for comfy, easy to take on-and-off pjs - for both of you!

Baby:

Neither very full nor very hungry. Arrange the earlier feedings so your child is likely to be hungry within the first 30 minutes of our visit. If necessary, feed just enough to keep everyone comfortable! No one is happy when they are hungry!

I pride myself on being flexible. Therefore I intentionally leave time in between clients. If your schedule is a bit off or your baby just fell asleep, give me a call or text and I will try my very best to come at a time that works for you and your baby. It’s important to see your baby feed when they are ready and willing, so let’s do our best to make that happen.

Location:

In-home visits allow you to relax in your own home environment. I come to you and we go about our business wherever is most comfortable for you and your family; sometimes we are sitting on your bed, sometimes in a comfy couch in the living room - I’ve seen it all! The goal is to help you where you are most comfortable! Please allow for a small area for me to set down my bag and computer, no other preparations are required!

Milk:

If you are having difficulty making all the milk your baby needs, please have available whatever you use to feed your baby. If you are a primary pumping parent with challenges related to pumping, please have your pump and accessories available.

Siblings, Pets & Support People

A new baby is a whole family affair! I love pets and children! (Remind me to tell you about the story of Scribbles the cat during our visit!) Support people are a fantastic resource during our visits and I encourage and welcome their presence.

If possible, please arrange for pets to be occupied elsewhere in the home so that we can focus on you and your new baby. However, I’ve conducted whole visits with a child in my lap and dogs barking up a storm - life happens! My goal is to help you get the help you need, not to cause added stress or work for you.
